Assistant Director, Programming and Engagement

CJPAC is a national, independent, multi-partisan organization. Our mandate is to engage Jewish and pro-Israel Canadians in the democratic process and to foster active political participation. We are dedicated to helping community members build relationships within the Canadian political arena.

Overview of the Position:
The Assistant Director, Programming and Engagement is a new position that will support CJPAC’s programming objectives. As a member of the national programming team, the Assistant Director plays a critical role in implementing programming and reaching out to the Jewish, pro-Israel and political communities as an ambassador for CJPAC. They will be responsible for introducing community members to and engaging them in politics. Reporting to the National Director of Outreach & Programming and working closely with the Assistant Director, Political Outreach and Programming and in collaboration with all departments and regions from our national office in Toronto, the Assistant Director will manage and execute events, programs, trainings, and engagement initiatives as part of the programming department strategy. They will recruit new participants for CJPAC’s programming, nurture existing relationships and play a key role in our election engagement strategies.

The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm and diligence to this role. They will have deep knowledge of the Jewish community and of the Canadian political system. This individual must be able to juggle multiple urgent priorities in a fast-paced and demanding environment, while ensuring that long term priorities are not lost.

Duties Include:

  • Working with the programming team to recruit and train political volunteers.
  • Tabling and presentations at community events to recruit new volunteers and program participants.
  • Taking the lead role on certain CJPAC programs that may include the Women in Politics Mentorship Program, standalone Women in Politics programming, Young Professionals engagement, and a new Executive Fellowship Program:
    • Coordinate recruitment and selection of WiP Mentors and Mentees.
    • Plan and execute 5-6 group events as part of the Mentorship Program.
    • Be the point person for WiP Steering Committee.
    • Plan and execute programs to engage a wider audience in the areas of Women in Politics and Young Professional engagement.
    • Oversee and execute a new Executive Fellowship Program designed to train previous volunteers and post-university aged constituents to take on roles and become deeply involved in the political process.
  • May take the lead on other programs instead of or in addition to those listed above, including youth engagement and training for high school students.
  • Engaging and training affinity groups including lawyers and accountants to be engaged in targeted election related activities.
  • Managing and executing virtual programming and training opportunities.
  • Implementing programming with synagogues and other partners.
  • During elections, engaging and connecting community members in campaigns across the political spectrum.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of ACTION Parties.
  • Consistently managing and tracking engagement of program participants, stakeholders and prospects in NationBuilder database.

Experience and Skills:

  • Understanding of the Canadian political landscape and partisan politics in Canada and of the Jewish and pro-Israel community landscape in Canada.
  • Superior organizational skills and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Experience coordinating and executing programs and events from start to finish.
  • Experience working with volunteers, lay leaders, or committees.
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills.
  • Creativity and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent judgment, common sense and discretion.
  • Post-secondary certification; minimum four years of relevant full-time work experience. including politics, non-profit, or Jewish community roles.
  • Experience with NationBuilder, social media and presentation software will be considered assets.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience – in the range of $50,000-$60,000.
