Celebrating Dr. May Cohen
Join UJA's Ontario Jewish Archives for a film screening of the Fabulous Dr. May Cohen in honour of International Women's Day! Dr. May Cohen and her husband, Dr. Gerry Cohen, ran a successful medical practice for 20 years in the heart of Toronto’s Bathurst Manor community. In conversation with Dr. Paula David—a clinical, educational, and intergenerational expert working with Holocaust survivors and their families—Dr. May Cohen will share her experiences practicing family medicine in Toronto’s first Jewish suburb.
Food Together: Community Sharing Program
Those in our community who were on the brink of falling below the poverty line this time last year are now, in fact, below it due to the effects of the pandemic. Those who are new to food insecurity need access to food now. We are introducing Food Together, a food sharing program, in order to help solve the ongoing issue of food insecurity in our own backyard, using the app OLIO. Have a little extra? Share it. Need a little extra? Receive it.

Call for Volunteers: Help UJA Check In on Vulnerable Community Members

With the long, cold winter and the GTA under another lockdown, we are mobilizing our phone tree for another round of wellness calls across the community. We want to check in on community members who might be experiencing isolation or food insecurity, or require other support. We are going to begin by calling Jewish seniors, many of whom are finding themselves especially vulnerable during these difficult times. We invite you to sign up and join the team!
