Toronto Rises Up for Jewish Education

On June 20th at 12:00 pm noon Toronto Jewish Day Schools from across the religious spectrum kicked off a united and unprecedented 24 hour Giving Day for Jewish day school education. Nine participating schools rallied the Toronto community to donate to Jewish education and raise Toronto.

And, as usual, our community did not disappoint as 2,266 (as of this morning) donors came through, raising a remarkable total of $1,731,210.

Toronto is home to one of the world’s strongest and most diverse Jewish day school systems.  These schools and their graduates have strengthened every facet of our community from Hillel on campus to synagogues to Federation and communal leadership.  In the past 50 years, the Toronto Jewish community has witnessed dynamic growth and transformation—with many schools dedicated to providing children of all religious affiliations and backgrounds a vibrant Jewish learning experience.

But with the widespread affordability challenges, more families struggle to give their children an excellent Jewish Day School education.  UJA and the schools are committed to ensuring the affordability and sustainability of Jewish day school education.

“Quite simply, the strength and the future of Jewish Toronto depends on the education of our children,” says Daniel Held, Executive Director, UJA Federation’s Julia and Henry Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Education. “To see the full gamut of our schools, spanning the religious spectrum, come together to collaborate with each other in the name of day school affordability, is wonderful. We hope that this initiative will continue the momentum of the remarkable Jesin-Neuberger Gift, and other initiatives undertaken by UJA Federation to strengthen the field of day school education and thereby strengthen the future of our whole community.”

The campaign ended at noon on June 21st.  To see the final results, visit www.charidy.com/raisetoronto
