Who we’re looking for:

Reporting to the CFO, Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll for all staff at the school as well as preparing year-end employee tax forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines. The ideal candidate will work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure benefits and payroll services are delivered.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Monthly payroll for 205 employees, both unionized and non-unionized
  • Maintain records on employee absenteeism
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare remittances for pension contributions, benefits and union dues payable
  • Ensure databases are set up and reflect the current employee base, including salaries, hourly wages, benefits and pension contributions/percentages, vacation accrual and sick bank
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Education:

  • Certification in PCP through the Canadian Payroll Association and or working towards the certification is a requirement.
  • Related College/University degree or an equivalent experience may be considered

Qualifications:

  • Exposure to various Payroll systems in a complex union and non-union environment.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation related to Payroll.
  • Understanding and interpretation of various collective agreements.
  • Strong computer skills in MS suite
  • Knowledge of ADP Payroll system considered an asset.
  • Attention to detail while processing Payroll in a high volume and timely environment.
  • Ability to deal with interruptions and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills required
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills required
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good work and attendance record required
